About Agritech Education
Agricultural Education plays an important role in the overall development of the country. Considering the importance of Agricultural Education, the University Education Commission in 1948 recommended the establishment of independent Rural Universities in the country. As a result of this recommendation made under the Chairmanship of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the first State Agricultural University was established in 1960 and veterinary universities, 1 Deem Agricultural university (AAI), 4 central universities having Agricultural faculty, 1 Central Agricultural university and 4 nation institutes of the ICAR with th status of at Pantnagar on the pattern of the Land Grant Colleges of united States. Today, the country has 50 state Agricultural deemed to be universities (ICAR-DUs) awarding master's / Ph.D degree in different disciplines of Agricultural and allied sciences. Agricultural Education is also imparted in some traditional universities of the country. thus our national Agricultural education and research system is one of the largest in the world, training more than 15,000 graduates, 8,000 post graduates and about 1,000 Ph.Ds annually, in different discipline of Agriculture and allied sciences.
in order to make the national Agricultural Education System more effective to improve standers of Agricultural Education and to develop trained man power to meet the requirement of the 21 st century, the Indian council of Agricultural research fills 100% seats in masters degree programs in the Indian Agricultural research institute (IARI) Indian veterinary research institute (IVRI), central institute of fisheries education (CIFE), and national dairy research institute (NDRI), and 25% seeds in the state Agricultural universities (SAUs), AAI, SASARD (Nagaland Univ.) and 4 central universities (BHU, CAU, AMU and visva bharti) through all India entrance examination for admission (AIEEA-PG).
